"I sincerely hope that the restrictions preventing Romanian and Bulgarian workers from accessing the European labour market will not be retained after 2011 as well.
I do not think that we should allow certain fears without any economic and social justification to be exploited politically and end up restricting the free movement of workers.
Labour migration from new Member States has boosted economic growth in the EU and had a limited impact on wages and unemployment in the deregulated markets. In addition, during the crisis, mobile workers have been hit even harder than workers from host countries, as they have been the first to be made redundant.
Finally, against the background of the debates on the Roma problem in France, I feel it is necessary to carry out an analysis of the level of integration of migrant workers from new Member States. The adjustment of these workers to local regulations must also be monitored where access to the labour market has been deregulated."@en1
