lpv:spoken text	"Mr President, with the Lisbon Treaty, we have further improved policy coordination and solidarity in many areas, including foreign and security policy. The treaty also contains a mutual assistance clause in case any Member State is threatened militarily. In light of this, the plans by France to sell four Mistral warships to Russia and to share some of the shipbuilding technology seem very alarming. What is more, the Mistral warships are clearly offensive – I stress, offensive and not defensive – in nature. Therefore, before we actually start doing something about the provisions of solidarity foreseen in the Lisbon Treaty, we should make sure that we do not diminish the security of our fellow EU Member States or that of our neighbours. I urge the Council to do everything in its power to initiate wide discussions within the EU regarding a need to develop a common definition and updated approach towards arms sales to third countries."@en1
