"I would first like to thank the rapporteur, Mrs Jeggle, on the fine job she has done. I also support my fellow Members who have spoken today against the three amendments to the common position.
This is not a perfect compromise, although it is the best possible wording at the moment.
The content of the draft has been produced after consulting with eminent scientists who know what they need to be able to continue their research.
Any amendment to the compromise will lead to a resumption of the usual procedure, which, in my view, is not in anyone’s interest. This is why I am calling on all fellow Members taking part in today’s vote to reject the three amendments and allow European research to perform at its best."@en1
