"The slowly receding economic crisis should encourage the European Union to manage resources more prudently and competitively. This is only possible with a sustainable approach to business, which brings with it a wide range of positive fringe benefits for the environment and for our citizens. We need to create stable general conditions in which the potential for employment in the EU’s green economy can flourish, ensuring sustained development for business. I am voting in favour of this report because economic growth, environmental protection and social cohesion go hand in hand and complement one another. The aim should be not only to create new, sustainable ‘green’ jobs, but also to encourage the business community and society as a whole to play a role in this new way of doing business. We must fully utilise the potential of the ‘green’ economy, while also contributing to Europe’s global image as a role model in terms of a progressive, sustainable and environmentally aware economic union."@en1
