This is by no means a purely theoretical debate but rather an issue of democracy, one in which the legitimacy of the European Union is at stake. The media, and also the new social networks, are the keys to a flourishing European public sphere: we MEPs must brief the European public on our work, through journalists and also through our websites, Facebook and Twitter accounts, and so on.
