"It is right to seek to explain to European citizens what the European Union and all its bodies do and what purpose they serve.
In particular, we should aim to ensure that citizens play a central role, which also means allowing them to choose who represents them. Even today, the most important positions such as High Representative for Foreign Affairs, President of the Commission and President of the Council are assigned without any input from the citizens. The national media should be encouraged to publish news about the activities carried out by MEPs, who are directly elected by Europeans and who therefore represent them."@en1
