"Sustainable growth must be based on social justice and eco-efficiency. The transformation of European economies into eco-efficient economies at every level – local, national, regional and European – will lead to profound changes in production, distribution and consumption. I support the efforts to organise public information and awareness campaigns to highlight that our strategy for shifting to a green, sustainable economy is socially fair and that it will help boost the level of employment.
I wish to stress the need to focus particular attention on biodiversity in the context of creating new green jobs throughout Europe, especially in the implementation of the Natura 2000 networks. I call on the Commission to propose by 2011 a strategy including both legislative and non-legislative measures to promote the creation of green jobs which provide a source of growth and prosperity for all.
I ask the Commission and Member States to include policies aimed at reskilling workers for green jobs in all the other EU policies."@en1
