"We are very sceptical about Europe assuming the burden of financial contributions to countries outside the EU.
It is one thing to take action along the lines of the much-loved motto of the
‘Let’s help people in their own home’ – with projects that are designed to help populations through the use of humanitarian measures, to combat poverty and to finance schemes for the protection of children; however, it is quite another to provide macro-financial assistance to a nation state. It is clear that action of this kind does not provide direct aid to the poor but to a state system that has been unable to manage its own finances. We therefore voted against."@en1
