"Mr President, the European Commission states in its communication that it is essential to act to eliminate dishonest practices among economic entities along the whole food supply chain. However, the Commission’s proposed measures for combating these practices are restricted to exchanging good practice, information campaigns and preparing voluntary standards for agreements. This approach will change little, if anything at all, and will not eliminate the abnormalities or put a stop to the constant tendency for the income of agricultural producers in Europe to be reduced.
We must not forget that the common agricultural policy also ensures a fair income for farmers and guarantees that prices of the highest-quality food are not extortionate, and that they are stable and transparent for consumers. This is what the report’s proposals offer and I will support them fully."@en1
