"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, I address my comments to Mrs Angelilli and the other signatories. I would just like to say that you have made some sensible and well-founded points about the case of Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani. However, words that have won admirable applause are one thing, and an official pronouncement from Parliament is another. We must issue one as quickly as possible, because this woman’s fate hangs on the decisions that are going to be made in the coming hours.
The number of voices calling for the ruling to be changed is growing, but Parliament must not fail to add its authoritative voice to this clamour. That is why I am making an urgent appeal to you and to the whole Chamber to bring forward the debate scheduled for Thursday afternoon."@en1
