lpv:translated text	"Once again, the European Parliament has, with reason, taken an opposing stance to the Council. In fact, it is not possible, given the current state of our knowledge, to grant market approval for cloned animals or even their descendants. The Council decided to ignore the recommendations of the European Committee on Bioethics and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) made in 2008. There are too few scientific studies on the potential consequences for the consumer, and cloning procedures are still in the developmental stage; lots of cloned animals die prematurely from malformations or insufficiencies (cardiovascular, hepatic, respiratory, immune system, etc.). Furthermore, cloning would reduce genetic diversity in livestock; it represents a serious risk to the European agricultural model, which is based on the quality of products, respect for the environment and strict animal welfare regulations. We have to guarantee consumers high quality meat about which they need have absolutely no doubts. This is why, together with my fellow Members, we have voted against granting market authorisation for cloned animals or even their descendants."@en1
