"In the vote on the regulation on novel foods, I voted against the appearance of foods from cloned animals on the European Union food market. I voted against the fact that concepts such as meat from cloned animals would not be covered by this regulation. I feel we must distinguish between scientific research and practical use quite clearly, specifically in this case – the use of such foods in our everyday lives. A large proportion of EU citizens are against the appearance of cloned meat in the food market. Therefore, we must take this into account. Firstly, there would be doubts over the quality of such meat and its impact on human health has not been investigated conclusively. Ethical considerations and the ethical aspect are another important matter. Today, we are sending out a rather clear political message that we are against the appearance of cloned meat from cloned animals on the EU food market. We call on the European Commission to put forward a legislative proposal so that we can discuss this topic further."@en1
