The Convention against Torture imposes various obligations on states to prevent torture, to investigate its occurrences, to bring to justice the perpetrators and to provide reparations to the victims. Notwithstanding the above, acts of torture continue to be perpetrated throughout the world, and a wide range of policing and security equipment is used.
