"I voted against the joint resolution on the situation in the Korean peninsula and in particular on the incident of the blowing up of the South Korean corvette
. I have done so because I think this resolution assumes the validity of the results of the unilateral investigation carried out by the South Korean military, along with the military of the United States and other countries. I do not think that these countries could have produced objective conclusions without allowing the participation of North Korea which, according to this investigation, is responsible for blowing up the corvette. For this reason, the Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left asks, in our resolution, for an independent investigation to be carried out under the auspices of the United Nations, in order to clarify the facts. Similarly, we urge that this incident should not trigger a military escalation on the peninsula. Thus, it is necessary for the two Koreas and their allies to refrain from any action or declaration that would lead to this. We insist that the only solution to end the tensions between North and South Korea is a dialogue based on mutual respect."@en1
