"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, I believe it is important and only right that we speak about the report by Mrs Figueiredo. It is a report that was discussed at length within the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, of which I am Vice-Chair, both when the compromise amendments were tabled and when the many suggestions were provided by the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats).
Ladies and gentlemen, the report presents some areas of major concern, which have not been addressed and resolved in the right and proper way. Ethical and cultural issues that are of fundamental importance for the majority of the society that we represent are not being taken into account. Above all, the report still does not focus on the assessment of the results of the 2006-2010 road map, even though we are now nearing the end of the four-year plan and it is important for the European Parliament to be able to express its view on the matter. Therefore, I cannot hide my misgivings about this report."@en1
