"Question 18 by Lidia Joanna Geringer de Oedenberg () Article 118 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), which gives the Union competence to legislate in the field of intellectual property rights, stipulates that: ‘in the context of the establishment and functioning of the internal market, the European Parliament and the Council, acting in accordance with the ordinary legislative procedure, shall establish measures for the creation of European intellectual property rights to provide uniform protection of intellectual property rights throughout the Union and for the setting up of centralised Union-wide authorisation, coordination and supervision arrangements’. The lack of a single EU legal framework governing copyright is a major barrier to the development of an internal market in copyrighted goods. What initiatives does the Commission intend to take in the area of copyright, pursuant to Article 118 of the TFEU?"@en1
