"Madam President, it is important that this process is drawing to a close, despite its limitations. It is time to ensure that all women who work – including the millions of self-employed women, and the spouses and
partners of self-employed workers – have the same rights, notably in terms of maternity leave.
Although this directive is along the right lines, it does not go all the way in fighting discrimination and guaranteeing equal treatment. It is a positive step, which we support. However, we do not want to stop at 14 weeks of maternity leave, and we intend for the new directive on maternity and paternity leave to also apply to these situations in the future.
This, of course, will be an ongoing struggle, although we welcome the progress that has been made so far and congratulate the rapporteur on her dedication throughout the process as a whole."@en1
