This institution has played and continues to play a crucial role during the current financial and economic crisis. The convergence objective receives considerable support from the Structural and Cohesion Funds as it is one of the Bank’s key objectives. EUR 21 billion, approximately 41% of the total sum of EIB loans in the European Union, have funded loans for projects with this objective in mind. I think that poorer regions cannot be developed until after the infrastructure providing accessibility, as well as the right social and educational infrastructure have been created, based on the common standards for all European Union citizens. This is why I am actually encouraging the European Investment Bank to continue the measures aimed at promoting economic and social cohesion in the European Union and the measures to combat the financial crisis by increasing..."@en1
