".
I support the Europe 2020 strategy promoting economic growth which is smart (based on knowledge and innovation), environmentally friendly and conducive to social inclusion. I would like this strategy to be implemented through the creation of well-paid jobs and an increase in people’s standard of living. If we want to have a strong, well-balanced Europe, we need to focus a great deal of attention on economic development in the regions of the new Member States in order to reduce the existing disparities. It goes without saying that creating a suitable infrastructure must be a priority.
I wish to stress the significance of implementing the symbolic ‘Youth on the Move’ initiative. We must increase funding for European programmes aimed at ensuring that education constantly keeps up to date at every level and at facilitating the mobility of teachers, students and researchers. The quality of education in European schools and universities must rise in keeping with the labour market’s requirements. We must use appropriate policies and finances to encourage the learning of foreign languages, multidisciplinarity, double specialisations in universities, which are important in terms of performance in scientific research and innovation, as well as for increasing young people’s chances on the labour market. I also welcome the fact that the 2020 strategy is proposing a ‘Youth employment framework’ at European level."@en1
