Canada constitutes a reliable and important partner for the European Union for historical and cultural reasons, because of ethnic and political affinities, and because our civilisations share values and points of reference. A comprehensive economic trade agreement with Canada could make a positive contribution to deepening the already excellent relations between the EU and Canada. Although difficulties have arisen in this relationship, specifically as regards fisheries, security and immigration, the truth is that, in comparison with other countries, the EU-Canada relationship is stable and profitable for both partners. I hope that this trust relationship lasts a long time and that both sides of the North Atlantic continue to be peaceful and prosperous."@en1
