"Madam President, as I was saying, I was very pleased when I heard former Commissioner Kuneva state that a review of Council Directive 90/314/EEC is needed. And why is that? Because it has many faults.
It does not take into account people who are booking their holidays themselves on the Internet without using a travel agency. The directive does not give any protection to consumers who are based in one country and who purchase a product or flight or accommodation in a country outside the European Union.
As well as that, the directive does not mention scheduled flights. It has many faults and I am extremely pleased to say that former Commissioner Kuneva was correct when she said that there is a real need for a new directive."@en1
