"As a project, Europe has been about peace, social well-being, freedom and growth. It has served as an example in terms of its social model and has also taken the lead on environmental issues, without equal on the global level.
The economic, financial and social crisis that we are currently experiencing requires a concerted response at European level. The crisis in Greece and the attack on the euro require a joint response, but unfortunately, this has been delayed. It is both possible and desirable to find a European solution in order to avoid these constant speculative attacks on the euro.
The EU has credibility and liquidity. If the required coordination is in place at European level, this should be enough to calm the market swiftly and cover the cost of the loans that Greece needs. This is a time that requires solidarity between the Member States and Europe’s institutions. It is even a matter of duty. It is to be hoped that the upcoming European Council will take steps towards achieving integrated and coordinated solidarity. Such an attitude is needed if the European project is to move forward. Solutions for the monitoring of each Member State’s deficit must be sought later."@en1
