"Mr President, counterfeit goods not only harm the competitiveness of European undertakings, but also harbour dangers to human health. The answer is to strengthen the application of intellectual property rights at global level.
We need as many trading partners as possible to join the multilateral agreement being discussed. The agreement being negotiated must be fully in keeping with the relevant Community acquis, must respect fundamental freedoms and protect personal data, must safeguard the free flow of information and must not place unwarranted burdens on legal trade.
Finally, Parliament should have full and substantial information at its disposal at all stages of the negotiation, with due regard for reasonable confidentiality."@en1
