"I supported this report. The European Union has gained new powers on the basis of the Lisbon Treaty and must ensure that those powers are fully and effectively used. The EU competence is strengthened in the field of energy policy, and the creation of a common energy market is a priority task for the European Commission. However, the European energy policy cannot be effectively promoted without having adequate and clear information about existing and planned energy infrastructure and projects in the European Union.
The new regulation is a very important piece of legislation in the EU energy policy and I very much hope that it can work in practice. The European energy policy cannot be effectively promoted without having adequate and clear information about existing and planned energy infrastructure in the European Union.
As we know, under the old regulation, many Member States did not comply with the reporting obligations and this should not be the case with the new regulation. The European Commission, as the guardian of the EU Treaty, must ensure that all Member States comply with the provisions of the regulation and timely submit all necessary information on the expected developments in energy infrastructure."@en1
