I voted in favour of the Hennis-Plasschaert report because, despite the importance of an agreement with the United States of America on the prevention of terrorism financing, I feel that this falls under the new legal framework established in the Treaty of Lisbon and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. This is a serious matter that warrants intensive debate in the European Parliament, which should have access to all necessary documentation, with the aim of rapidly concluding a long-term agreement which is more valuable in terms of security but which cannot jeopardise respect for citizens' rights."@en1 |
