"Although I am not against abortion, I did vote against paragraph 38 because it may be interpreted as encouraging this practice. I am also in favour of making contraception and education on these matters more easily accessible because this is the best way to avoid unwanted pregnancies. On the other hand, I believe that there are communities which, for a variety of reasons, want to retain power over the control of abortion at a national level, and they should be allowed to do so. This is an area where the principle of subsidiarity should be applied. I do not think that discussing this issue in the report on equality between men and women in the European Union is the best solution."@en1
