"I voted against the resolution because it contains too much wishful thinking. We saw in Copenhagen how the rest of the world regards the Union’s ‘leadership’ where climate change is concerned. The so-called Copenhagen Accord was negotiated by President Obama with China, India, Brazil, South Africa and a few others, the Barrosos, Sarkozys and Co. not even having been invited. Instead of imposing new burdens on our economies and our citizens, let us invest in the technologies of the future. Last year, China became the world’s leading exporter of wind turbine equipment and photovoltaic cells. Europe must join in this technological battle instead of inflicting on itself a sort of collective punishment, which does not impress anyone outside Europe and which will not attract any followers."@en1
