"Mr President, my surname is very difficult, too – Skrzydlewska – but I am used to the fact that not many people can say it properly.
During today’s voting, we voted on the report on equality between women and men in the European Union in 2009. However, among the provisions relating to problems associated with discrimination against women and their more difficult situation in the labour market, there were provisions calling on Member States to facilitate universal access to abortion and services related to reproductive and sexual health. I would like to point out that matters related to abortion are something to be decided by individual Member States. Therefore, in the final vote I was against the report, because I think that, when fighting for the right to equal treatment for women and men, we should not make this right dependent on choices related to sexual matters."@en1
