"We are not at this stage contemplating the kind of measures suggested. I personally believe it is not very appropriate to link this kind of proposal to the specific situation in Greece today; in fact, it could send the wrong signal.
Let us be honest about it. Greece and the countries of the euro area have a specific obligation when it comes to implementing the conditions of the Stability and Growth Pact. It is very important for them and, above all, for their own economy, but it is also important for others. I believe that raising this issue at this moment and suggesting that there could be a solution outside Greece’s own efforts is not the best way to help our Greek friends to implement, with determination, the measures announced by Prime Minister Papandreou."@en1
