"Over the past nine years, 77 airlines have filed for bankruptcy. That is not just one, two or three, and not just yesterday: I repeat, this is over the past nine years. As a result of this, thousands of passengers have been staying in foreign airports without any protection. They have not obtained any compensation, or at least have not obtained the appropriate compensation in time. On account of this, I voted for this resolution, and I agree with the idea that in the airline sector, we must also regulate this gap in our legal system, something which has prevailed today. I also support the concrete deadline put forward in the resolution, which is 1 July 2010 – quite soon, therefore – when the European Commission must come forward with concrete, real proposals to solve this problem, and in future, air passengers’ rights should also be protected …"@en1
