"Mr President, in the case of Kyoto, we gave developing countries concessions and exclusions which caused the loss of a significant part of our competitiveness. Meanwhile, in 2005, developing countries exceeded Europe’s level of CO
emissions. Today, Parliament not only wants to burden the economy with still more drastic climate regulations. The proposed resolution places a burden on our national budgets of EUR 30 billion a year for the next 10 years, which will be used to help developing countries. In the case of Poland, the proposed method of calculating the contribution could mean a cost of even EUR 40 billion over 10 years until 2020. The doubtful effects of the Kyoto Protocol, the privileged position of developing countries and the rising costs of this policy make us opposed to this resolution. We are responsible not only for the climate but also for the prosperity of our citizens."@en1
