"The European Council will be invited to adopt the strategy on the Baltic Sea region. I believe that this provides a good model for the European Union’s future strategy on the Danube region.
The Danube region covers 10 states, six of which are Member States of the European Union, with a population of 200 million. This number includes 75 million people who live in areas bordering the Danube. This is why I think that it is important for this model to be used for the Danube strategy as well, which will need to have an action plan and action programme for the coming years.
Still on the subject of the European Council’s programme, I also think that it is of paramount importance for us to adopt at European level the financial instruments required for the development of an ‘eco-efficient’ economy. I am talking, in this case, about energy efficiency in buildings and sustainable transport in particular."@en1
