"The resolution that has just been adopted makes the purposes and objectives intended by the majority of this House for EU-Russian relations clear. It wants them to ‘be based on the principles of liberalised and open markets and reciprocity of investment rights between the partners, and therefore demand that, in exchange for close and beneficial economic ties, the Russian Government guarantee the property rights of foreign investors’. In other words, the intention is to pressure Russia into handing over its immense natural wealth, for example, specifically natural gas and oil, and into conditioning its productive capacity and making its labour available for exploitation in the interests of the great powers and big business in the EU, which want to have access to resources that should belong to the Russian people. The resolution puts all the pressure on Russia, but there is not one single reference to the expansion of NATO to the east and the United States’ new missile system in Europe. For our part, we reject this type of relationship out of hand. We call for the establishment of equitable relations and mutual respect between the two parties, based on the interests of their people and respect for the principles of non-intervention, disarmament and ."@en1
