This view was also broadly supported by the European Parliament in its written declarationadopted on 8 May 2008, of which I had the honour of being one of the first signatories. I therefore voted in favour of this report, as any type of investment and expansion in this area is vital and urgent, particularly in the current context of economic and financial crisis.
