"( ) The original own-initiative report on combating female genital mutilation was very good, but the revised version, which won the vote, contained a wording in which the authors indicate the desire to introduce regular medical check-ups for women who have been granted asylum because of the threat of female genital mutilation. The intended purpose of this is to prevent female genital mutilation from occurring in the receiving EU Member State. I believe that enforced medical check-ups constitute a massive invasion of privacy. Visiting the doctor must be something that is done voluntarily. Employing compulsion in this situation is completely unacceptable. I therefore voted against the revised version."@en1
