I voted against this federalist and arrogant report with great conviction. What arrogance to claim, as in recital B, that the populace that voted against the European Constitution is one that has an inadequate understanding of Europe. That is manifestly untrue. Precisely those citizens who grasp only too well the fact that the EU seeks to undermine the last vestiges of the sovereignty of the Member States were the ones who voted against the European Constitution. What arrogance to claim that integration only catches on in the well-educated sections of society. The rapporteur is clear, however. Those who think ‘the wrong way’ must be criminalised or regarded as idiots. Then we can talk about an active dialogue with the citizens."@en1
