"Madam President, I sometimes get the impression that the wealthier a country, the less money it spends on caring for, bringing up and educating its children. However, we must remember that Europe is being threatened by a demographic crisis. We must do everything to encourage women and men to have families and as many children as possible.
In many countries of the EU, guaranteeing a place in a nursery means applying even before the child is born. How, then, can we talk about making it easy for women to return to work? Furthermore, many women look for their first job only after they have had their children.
Let the attitude of European citizens to the family and to children define our level of culture and civilisation."@en1
