Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, I voted in favour of Mr Morillon’s report on amendments to the Convention on multilateral cooperation in the North-East Atlantic Fisheries. The North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission, created by the said Convention, plays a valuable role in the conservation and optimum utilisation of fisheries resources, and also seeks to encourage cooperation among the States party to the Convention. I welcome the amendments made to the Convention as they establish procedures for settling disputes and will improve the management of fisheries resources. It is therefore a useful tool for developing the fisheries industry."@en1
