"The common security policy is a topic which has been debated many times and about which a great deal has been written. The European Union is an increasingly important facilitator at regional and global level. It is precisely for this reason that I feel that the European Union must be visibly active within its borders and proactive in any area of the world. After examining the three reports today: the 2007 Annual report on the main aspects and basic choices of the CFSP, the European Security Strategy and ESDP and the role of NATO in the security architecture of the EU, I believe that we can come to three conclusions: 1. The European Union must have a common security policy capable of supporting the democracies within its borders and the partnerships with the countries neighbouring it. 2. The European Union must project the image of being a unitary whole and needs a rapid-reaction force capable of intervening at any time to support peace, democracy and human rights. 3. The European Union must consolidate its position globally and continue to act as a facilitator for stability and balance between the major powers in the world."@en1
