"Mr President, I am voting in favour of adopting the report on the Implementation of Community Funds in Afghanistan (). Mrs Mathieu is quite right to point out that Afghanistan’s social indicators are dramatically low. There is continuing conflict or war, as well as tribal and international clashes, drug trading and corruption. As a result, Afghanistan needs international aid. I would like to express my support for aid to Afghanistan. I welcome the long-term commitment to action aimed at providing support to this country and I think that the priorities described in the Commission’s Country Strategy Paper 2007-2013 satisfy the requirements of Afghan society."@en1
