"Mr President, yes, there have been a number of e-mails but there has also been lobbying by the Israeli Embassy. That is not the reason why we have made any particular decision. The reason was our firm conviction that this vote would not have been appropriate at this time.
Many arguments put forward by fellow Members – be it Mr Kasoulides, Mr Brok, Mr Zaleski or others – are thoroughly worthy arguments. I believe, after this difference of opinion that we had, it is now high time to return to a joint position that signifies support for Israel, but at the same time also support for the peace process, for the Palestinians’ right to exist. That is what matters to us, nothing more or nothing less."@en1
