"Mr President, I voted against the Andersson report, not only because the text pertains to labour law – which falls within the remit of the Member States – but also because it makes reference to the Charter of Fundamental Rights and the Treaty of Lisbon again and again. It is, of course, not the first report to commit this crime, but it shows a deep contempt for the Irish voters who have nullified the Treaty and, in fact, for all voters in Europe who have not had the opportunity to express their views about the Treaty of Lisbon in a democratic way. Time and time again, it is promised that Europe will take the will of the people into consideration, that something will be done to remove the democratic deficit and, time and time again, it transpires here in Parliament that Europe fails to deliver. The European Union has a problem of credibility that is at least as big as the problem of the democratic deficit."@en1
