lpv:translated text	"I voted in favour of the report on the proposal for a Council regulation amending Regulation (EC) No 423/2004 as regards the recovery of cod stocks and amending Regulation (EEC) No 2847/93. According to the Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries, cod stocks in the North Sea are in a critical state. Too many fish are being caught, and in particular, too many juvenile fish. This reduces the possibilities for the species to recover. The rapporteur, Mr Busk, has emphasised the need for monitoring and control of compliance with the rules. He also inclines towards the Commission’s view on the need to review catches, to simplify the management system and to reduce discards. We cannot ban fishing because of the social and economic consequences, but immediate action is needed to implement the cod stocks recovery plan."@en1
