It was not easy to find a balance between maintaining competition between the airlines and guaranteeing the independence of travel agents, while enabling passengers to receive useful, unbiased information. The text on which the rapporteur and the French Presidency have agreed respects these requirements, and I am pleased about this. A balanced definition of the concept of ‘parent carrier’ has been agreed and that is essential for ensuring healthy competition between the various computerised reservation systems.
