". We voted in favour of the report, as the amendments which Parliament proposes would mean requiring the consent of the European Parliament to conclude agreements. We are in favour of a thorough review of the EU’s Fisheries Agreements and see this as a positive first step which gives us greater opportunities for influence. We take the scientific reports which show that the seas are being exhausted very seriously. Therefore we do not see the EU’s Fisheries Agreements as a means of combating poverty and encouraging development which is sustainable in the long term. We would like to change the EU’s fisheries policy such that it leads to rebuilding fish stocks. Through changes in the EU’s trade and aid policy and various forms of partnership, we also seek to support sustainable development in the countries in which Fisheries Agreements with the EU currently constitute a major source of income."@en1
