"I will be supporting this report on mutual recognition of judgments in criminal matters. I take the view that those convicted of crimes should not be able to hide within the interstices of the European Union. Anyone convicted within one Member State should be considered guilty across the Union. If we doubt the independence and integrity of courts in any State of the Union, that State should have its membership suspended. Otherwise, just as we make no distinction between criminals in Manchester or London, neither should we if it is Madrid or Lisbon."@en1
