"As a Hungarian I feel very proud and I congratulate our Slovenian friends. As a new Member State, they have done an excellent job. They have done a great deal to stabilise the Western Balkans and on the Kosovo issue, on the accession of Croatia, and on abolishing visa requirements. I am especially grateful that they supported Hungary’s bid to host the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT); indeed my thanks goes to all the Member States who supported our bid. I would also like to congratulate our Slovak friends on the introduction of the euro in 2009.
None of this, however, alters the fact that the European Union is in the midst of its deepest crisis. Here we only refer to the Lisbon Treaty as an institutional reform. No, my friends: implementing Lisbon would be a step towards political union and a community of values. Let us respect the decision of the Irish people, but we have not moved forward at all from the position we were in a week ago. Our Irish friends must decide once and for all whether they want to remain in the European Union or not. This is what they must decide, and the Lisbon Treaty must be put into effect. Thank you very much."@en1
