The chlorination of chicken has not proved harmful to health or harmful in any other way, and our policy decisions should always be evidence-based. In the interests of free trade, therefore, I have voted against this report, which I consider to be motivated by protectionism.
In view of the widespread disquiet among the public in the EU as regards chlorinated chicken, however, it is of the utmost importance that we get legal requirements for labelling so that every individual can choose to avoid this product, for example in shops or restaurants."@en1
