Why are we not talking about welcoming those who arrive on the territory of Europe and about the reception facilities instead of the detention centres? We have known for decades that smugglers have a criminal interest in human trafficking and that often there are accomplices involved in catering for these illegal workers, who are poorly paid and badly housed. I feel that legal measures are urgently needed to counter the activities of these people smugglers and traffickers. As far as voluntary return policies are concerned, supporting these with a policy of targeted cooperation would send a better signal than imprisoning those who are not guilty of anything.
