The agreement in Doha between the government and opposition leaders has provided the country with an opportunity to hopefully move towards relative peace and stability. While the vote is yet to be made on the nomination of General Michel Sleiman as president, signs that all sides are prepared to negotiate are encouraging. I believe that the EU should continue to support measures to ensure that we no longer witness the violence and political upheaval suffered by the Lebanese people. I voted in favour of the motion for a resolution."@en1
